Marsh Award for Volunteering with Platform 51

2011 - Lindsey Hill

Lindsey has been attending Platform 51’s West London centre for the last eight years. Over that time she has turned her life around and spent a lot of time helping others to do the same.

During her time at Platform 51 Lindsey has taken part in educational programmes, accredited courses, prepared and taken part in a local carnival, public speaking, met the then prime minister Gordon Brown, run tenancy training at a local hostel, attended the queen’s tea party and most recently travelled to Zurich to represent Great Britain at the Young Women Christian Association world council. She has achieved this while all the time helping and encouraging her peers and maintaining a paid job.

London West's centre manager Ruth Lowe said: "Lindsey came to Platform 51 in a bad relationship, no job and no confidence. Since then, through sheer perseverance, Lindsey has spoken in front of an audience of over 1000, met the former Prime Minister and represented Platform 51 at the Global YWCA conference in Zurich. Lindsey is now a manager of a children's centre and is working hard to create a bright future for herself and her two children. She is an inspiration!"

Kayleigh Devlin and Kealy Hastick (pictured above with Lindsey) were also both highly commended for their outstanding contributions to Platform 51 over the last few years.
