The Foundation

The Marsh Christian Trust is a grant making body, established in 1981 with the sum of £75,000. Having grown through investments and additional donations by the founder and current Chairman, Mr Brian Marsh OBE, the Trust’s funds currently stand at just over £8 million. Since its establishment in 1981, the number of organisations supported each year has grown from just 8 to over 300 today.

The Trust's principle activity is financed by income derived from its investment portfolio and it does not accept any public donations.

The Marsh Christian Trust aims to create long-standing relationships with the organisations it supports through both its grant-making and the Awards programme. The Trust maintains contact with each long-term recipient charity in order to review the work done, learn of future plans and offer advice on fundraising activities and any other organisational problem in which it may be able to assist.

The grant-making programme provides long-term core funding to registered charities experienced in their chosen field of work and never to individuals.

The Trust maintains a policy of making a comparatively large number of modest grants each year. The causes that the Trust supports lie broadly within the following areas of work:-

  • Social welfare
  • Literature, arts and heritage
  • Environmental causes and animal welfare
  • Healthcare
  • Education and Training

For further information on the grant-making programme and details on eligibility, criteria guidelines and the application process, please see the grants page.

The Trust's portfolio of Awards currently number over 70, with several new Awards in the pipeline. The Awards are managed in partnership with a variety of key partner organisations such as Fauna and Flora, Barnardos, the Zoological Society of London, the Royal Opera House and Civic Voice.

More information on the ethos of the Awards is available under the Awards section.

Information on individual Awards and past winners can be found on the left hand side menu bar.
