Marsh Award for Fundraising Volunteer of the Year
This is a new Award, presented in partnership with Barnardo’s, which recognises an individual or group of volunteers who have demonstrated an exceptional level of support and commitment to raising funds for the organisation. The Award is a way to celebrate individuals who have made a real difference to Barnardo’s through their efforts as volunteers.
The 2016 winner is Elizabeth Singer
Elizabeth was a founding member of the Porthcawl Barnardo’s Helper Group (BHG) in 1975 and has also served as County and Regional Chair for South Wales, before stepping down to Chair the Appeals Advisory Board (AAB), made up of county and regional chairs from across the UK, who each represent and support their BHGs. AAB is the fundamental link between volunteers, staff and Trustees at Barnardo’s. Elizabeth stepped down as chair in October 2016, but continues as a member of the Porthcawl committee, which in 2015 marked their 40th Anniversary.
To date, Elizabeth has raised over £250,000 through her BHG groups including: Porthcawl, Tug of War, and Musical in Aid of Barnardo’s Cymru as well as her personal donations to Barnardo’s. To mark the 150th Anniversary of Barnardo’s, she organised an Evensong Service in St David’s Cathedral in West Wales.
In 2014, Elizabeth was appointed the High Sherriff of Mid Glamorgan and agreed to take on the position in order to raise awareness of the work of Barnardo’s, including the ground-breaking project within Parc Prison, with prisoners and their families for the Invisible Walls Wales Campaign.
