Marsh International Animal Welfare Award

2008 - VITA

VITA (Latin for "Life") is a non-profit animal protection organisation based in Moscow, Russia.

VITA is entirely run by volunteers, whose dedicated members work on a range of issues including education, farming and stray dogs. They also work on issues not commonly addressed by groups in the country, including intensive farming and animal experimentation.

A significant achievement was the success of a VITA/InterNICHE joint campaign against animal experimentation in education, with the result that two St Petersburg university departments are replacing animal experiments with humane alternatives.

Picture shows Brian Marsh with Elena Maroueva of VITA.
